How to use it
Check out the D minor pentatonic scale as that is where most people will start with this one. It sounds great no doubt but as we are looking at more funky sound you might find it sounds a bit formulaic after a while
Try repeating the backing track but this time with the F major pentatonic scale. It might feel a bit harder at first to hit the right notes in the scale on the chord changes but this will free you from the generic sounding minor pentatonic soloing
When you are comfortable with both minor and major pentatonic, try moving between both whilst soloing.
There are a few other scales that work well with this including the Lydian mode (link below) so try exclusively staying in this mode to see how you can expand the feel of your solo.
